Authorities are continuing to respond to a tram collision that occurred in the vicinity of Strasbourg-Ville Station (Gare Centrale) in Strasbourg as of the evening of Jan. 11. The incident reportedly occurred during the afternoon hours as one tram reversed course and struck another in a tunnel near the station, injuring at least 50 people; none of those injured were critically wounded. Officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The collision caused disruptions to tram service on lines A, C, and D as well as bus service on lines G, H, 2, and 10 via the station. Tram service has resumed on Line C and bus service has resumed on all of the abovementioned lines; however, tram service on lines A and D is slated to remain disrupted between Rotonde and Homme de Fer through at least late Jan. 11. Delays will likely affect lines on which service has resumed over the short term.
Heightened security will probably affect the vicinity of Strasbourg-Ville Station until authorities conclude their investigative work at the scene. Associated transport disruptions may extend into early Jan. 12 and prompt increased demand for alternative modes of transport.
