Unionized fishermen plan to block National Highway (NH) 66 in and around Udupi District, Karnataka State, Jan. 10. Organizers are demanding the state government enforce court orders on harmful fishing practices, including illegal trawling. Hundreds of participants may join the action between Bhatkal of Uttara Kannada District and Gangolli of Udupi District. Although significant transport disruptions are unlikely, delays and detours are possible along NH 66 and alternative national and state highways.

Security personnel are likely to monitor the protest. Transport disruptions may affect passenger and freight traffic along the affected highway. Clashes are possible if police attempt to forcibly disperse demonstrators.

Gangolli is approximately 36 km (22 miles) north-northwest of Mangaluru.
