Italy: Unionized airport personnel to strike at Sicily's Palermo Airport and Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Jan. 17

Airport staff to strike 12:00-16:00 at Palermo Airport and 00:01-23:59 at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Italy, Jan. 17. Reconfirm flights.

Informational

Unionized airport personnel at Sicily's Palermo Airport (PMO) and Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) plan to strike on Jan. 17. At PMO, workers employed by the GESAP airport management company, affiliated with multiple transport unions, will strike 12:00-16:00 due to disagreements over the management of the airport. Additionally, aviation services staff affiliated with the OSP UGL-Trasporto Aero union will conduct a 24-hour strike from 00:01-23:59.

Airport delays and flight disruptions, including cancellations, are likely throughout Jan. 17 at PMO and CTA. Lingering flight delays are possible even after the strikes end, as airlines work through passenger backlogs and reposition aircraft. Groups of striking workers could gather near the airports throughout the day.

Confirm all flight bookings if transiting through PMO or CTA Jan. 17. Allow additional time for airport check-in and processing. Seek alternative means of transport if necessary. Do not check out of accommodation unless onward travel is assured. Avoid any demonstrations that may materialize. Heed instructions from authorities.
