Italy: Unionized rail workers plan to strike in Florence and Abruzzo areas 09:00-17:00 Jan. 12

Unionized rail personnel affiliated with several transport unions plan to strike in Florence and Abruzzo from 09:00 to 17:00 on Jan. 12. Train operator Trenitalia workers at the DBRSI Abruzzo facilities will strike in Abruzzo, and workers employed by the Italian Railway Network (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, RFI) will strike in Florence.

Unless averted, the strikes will likely disrupt rail services in Florence and Abruzzo, prompting delays and cancellations. The strike may also cause increased demand for alternative public transportation. Services that do operate are likely to be more congested than usual. Lingering disruptions may occur after the strike ends. While no protests have been organized, workers could picket outside transport hubs; a heightened security presence is likely near any gatherings.
