Netherlands: Unionized pharmacists plan to strike nationwide Jan. 9-10

Unionized pharmacists plan to strike across the Netherlands Jan. 9-10 over work conditions. Reduced medication access likely.

Informational

Unionized pharmacists affiliated to labor unions FNV and CNV plan to hold a two-day nationwide strike Jan. 9-10 over work conditions amid ongoing collective agreement negotiations. Organizers claim more than 2,000 pharmacies across the country will be closed on both days. While there have been no announcement of gatherings, related demonstrations could occur outside government buildings, public squares, or other popular protest locations.

The strike will probably prompt reduced prescription access; emergency access to medications will be available with potential delays. Police may deploy to monitor any protests that occur. Localized transport disruptions are possible.

Ensure sufficient supplies of prescriptions and emergency medication to cover the period of the pharmacy closures. Avoid protests as a precaution.
