Authorities report downing drones in Ust-Luga, Leningrad Oblast, Russia, Jan. 4. Air travel disrupted and port reportedly struck.
Russian authorities reported shooting down four unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Ust-Luga, Leningrad Oblast, on the morning of Jan. 4. Sources indicate that at least one UAV detonated within the port of Ust-Luga, though the governor of the Leningrad Region denied that there had been any damage or casualties.
Authorities in other Russian regions, including Bryansk, Smolensk, Belgorod, and Pskov, also reported drone activity overnight Jan. 3-4. Flights were temporarily suspended at St Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport (LED) on two occasions during the morning of Jan. 4. Residual flight disruptions are possible through late Jan. 4 as airlines attempt to clear any backlog of flights.
Disruptions to services at Ust-Luga port are possible over the near term as any necessary repair work is carried out and authorities investigate the incident. Retaliatory Russian strikes are possible against port facilities in Ukraine in the coming days.
Monitor official channels for notifications of incoming drone attacks. Seek cover or remain indoors in the event of reports of drone activity, and remain in cover until the all-clear is given. During drone attacks, stay away from windows and walls bordering outdoor areas. Reconfirm flight schedules at LED.
