US: Lingering flight disruptions likely at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International amid aircraft incident and severe weather Jan. 10

Lingering flight disruptions at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, Georgia, US, amid aircraft incident and severe weather Jan. 10.

Warning

Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) through at least the afternoon of Jan. 10 due to a Delta Air Lines (DL) aircraft incident in combination with severe weather at the airport. The Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 operating flight DL 2668 aborted takeoff at AT, and evacuated passengers via the aircraft's emergency slides around 09:10 Jan. 10. At least four passengers were injured during the evacuation; initial reports indicate the aircraft experience an engine issue during its takeoff roll.

Airport officials expect the affected runway to be cleared during the early afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has also issued a ground stop at ATL for Delta Air Lines and its subsidiaries.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for ATL through at least late Jan 10.

Contact your airline to confirm flight status if booked to travel via ATL Jan. 10. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
