US: Water disruptions and boil water advisories continue in Richmond and surrounding areas of Virginia as of Jan. 9 /update 3

Water disruptions continue in Richmond and surrounding counties of Virginia, US, as of Jan. 9. Boil water advisories remain in place.

Warning

Officials in Richmond, Virginia, are continuing to work to restore water distribution throughout the city as of Jan. 9 following problems at the city's water treatment plant, which began on Jan. 6. Authorities confirmed water pressure has been fully restored, but a boil water advisory remains in place for the entire city. Officials are conducting tests to confirm that the water is safe to drink again; the boil water advisory is likely to remain in place through at least late Jan. 10. Due to the outages, officials have closed schools in Richmond and Virginia's General Assembly has postponed its sessions until at least Jan. 13.

Additionally, water flow has been returning to areas of central and eastern Henrico County which had lost it in recent days; the entire county also remains under a boil water advisory. In Hanover County, officials are maintaining a boil water advisory for residents east of Interstate 95 (I-95), excluding Doswell.

Commercial businesses that rely on large quantities of water will likely experience disruptions until water services are fully restored. Additional water outages cannot be ruled out.

Secure alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes. Conserve water when possible.
