All India Trinamool Congress to launch two-month political rally campaign in West Bengal State, India, from April 25. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The All India Trinamool Congress (AIMC) plans to stage a two-month campaign of political rallies across West Bengal starting April 25 to mobilize grassroots-level support ahead of the state's rural (panchayat) elections. Party leaders plan to hold over 250 rallies across the state. The campaign will start in the Dinhata area of Cooch Behar District on April 25 and move through several parts of West Bengal before ending with a rally in Kakdwip. The specific date of the elections remains unconfirmed.

Although organizers have as yet announced no specific locations for gatherings, rallies will probably take place at prominent public spaces, government buildings, press clubs, sports grounds, public squares, and thoroughfares. Previous similar demonstrations have attracted hundreds of participants.

Authorities will likely monitor any such gatherings and may disperse overly disruptive crowds. Officials may implement enhanced measures, such as roadblocks and pedestrian checks, as standard precautions. Clashes between police and activists, as well as between supporters of opposing rival camps, cannot be ruled out. Demonstrators may march along or block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions. Localized business disruptions are possible near rally venues.

Advice

Monitor local sources for rally announcements; avoid all such events as a standard security precaution. Keep away from any political protests that may materialize; depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Plan accordingly for associated localized transport and business disruptions. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
