A large explosion caused by a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) has detonated in the vicinity of Zanbaq Square, Wazir Akbar Khan, in the center of Kabul’s diplomatic quarter, May 21. The area is currently on lockdown. The situation may be ongoing. Some small arms fire has been reported, which may relate to nervous security staff firing warning shots.

Where possible, individuals in are advised to avoid the area until further notice. The area is currently on lockdown. Follow all security force directives. Shelter in place.
