Haiti: General strikes, protests May 26 - June 1
General strike taking place on Friday, May 26, over increases in the minimum wage and against police brutality; further strikes and protests on May 29, May 30, and June 1

Multiple trade unions have called for a general strike on Friday, May 26. Protesters are demanding a rise in the daily minimum wage to 800 gourdes (approximately USD 12) from the current 300 gourdes (approximately USD 4.5). Protesters are also denouncing the violent dispersal of a protest held on May 23 by the Haitian National Police and private security agents at the National Society of Industrial Parks (Société Nationale de Parcs Industriels, Sonapi). Additional violence cannot be ruled out.
Associated protests are also scheduled on Monday, May 29, Tuesday, May 30, and Thursday, June 1.
