United Kingdom: Cabin electronics ban lifted on flights from Tunis-Carthage /update 1

The government of the United Kingdom has lifted a ban on passengers carrying larger electronic devices (e.g. laptops, DVD players, tablets, e-readers, and digital cameras) on direct UK-bound flights from Tunisia's Tunis-Carthage International Airport (TUN), effective August 22.

Officials in the UK reported that the ban was lifted following the introduction of new security measures, and that the further easing of restrictions on other flights is being evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Context

In March, British officials announced that passengers on direct flights from six countries to the UK would not be allowed to travel with electronic devices larger than a standard smartphone in their carry-on luggage. These devices need to be packed into luggage and checked in before going through airport security.

As a reminder, this ban has since been lifted for select flights from Tunisia, Turkey, and Jordan. It is still in effect for all direct flights from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Lebanon.
