Cape Verde: Heavy rains possible August 29

The US National Hurricane Center announced on Tuesday, August 29, that a low pressure area near Cape Verde has an 80 percent chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next two days. It is expected to bring heavy rains to northwest Cape Verde on Tuesday evening, but will pass the islands before developing into a larger storm.

Should flooding occur, individuals are advised to monitor the situation, to avoid areas directly hit by flooding, and to adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs disposed of.
