A sit-in demonstration is set to be held in front of the Parliament building in the capital Port-au-Prince on Thursday, August 31. As with all protests in Haiti, there is a risk of violent outbreaks, including clashes between protesters and security forces.

Context

The demonstration has been called for by the Popular Democratic Forum (FODEM) umbrella organization to denounce the proposed 2017-2018 government budget.

Individuals in Port-au-Prince, and Haiti more generally, are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution.
