Malaysia: Thousands protest near Kuala Lumpur Oct. 14

Opposition supporters gathered in Petaling Jaya near the capital city of Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, October 14, in protest against Prime Minister Najib Razak. According to media reports, thousands of people participated in the rally at Padang Timur against alleged kleptocracy and a scandal involving the prime minister. Context

The rally was organized by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition. Razak has been accused of mismanaging the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). The US Department of Justice has filed a civil suit for USD 1.7 billion after charging that Razak misappropriated the fund.
