United Kingdom: Train cancelations ahead of Storm Caroline Dec. 7 /update 1

Authorities have canceled all rail service in the Scottish Highlands on Thursday, December 7, as Storm Caroline is poised to batter the UK. The storm is forecast to bring gusts of up to 145 km/h (90 mph) along with heavy rain to Northern and Western Isles of Scotland on December 6-7. Additionally, 2-5 cm (0.7-2 in) of snow are forecast to fall in parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and western England on Friday, December 8. Temperatures are also forecast to fall as low as -16°C (3.2°F). Ice warnings are in effect for potentially impacted areas through 18:00 (local time) on Saturday, December 9.

Authorities have warned that the storm could bring storm surge and potential flooding to coastal areas. Road, air, and ferry services, in addition to rail service, may all be affected by the storm.
