A suicide bomber on foot blew himself up in a Shi'ite area of Kabul on Friday, March 9, killing at least seven people and injuring several others. The terrorist attack happened near a gathering marking the 23rd anniversary of the death of a prominent leader of the Shi'ite Hazara ethnic community, who had been assassinated by the Taliban. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Context
This umpteenth violent terrorist act comes amid growing pressure on the Taliban to take up an offer by the Afghan authorities for direct peace talks.
