A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck Central Java on the afternoon (local time) of Wednesday, April 18. The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 52 km (32 mi) north of the Kebumen district. One individual has reportedly been killed and at least 20 more injured; further details concerning casualties, including locations, were not immediately available. Material damages have also been reported in Banjarnegara district, with Kertosari village reportedly hit the hardest. Further damages may be reported elsewhere as additional information emerges. Aftershocks are possible.

Indonesia lies within the active seismic zone known as "the Pacific Ring of Fire" and earthquakes are common.
