Italy: National aviation sector strikes May 8

National air traffic controller and airport ground staff strikes in Italy May 8; flight and service disruptions likely

Warning

Event

Various aviation sector strikes are set to take place on Tuesday, May 8. Air traffic controllers will be on strike nationwide from 10:00 until 18:00 (local time). Furthermore, ground staff will hold strikes at the following airports: Pisa (PSA), Milan-Malpensa (MXP), Milan-Linate (LIN), Florence (FLR), and Ancona-Marche (AOI). Flight delays and cancelations along with increased waiting times at airports (check-in counters, security checkpoints, baggage drop-off/claim, etc.) are likely.

Context

Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum levels of services must be guaranteed during all strikes.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport and arrive earlier than normal in anticipation of increased waiting times.
