Australia: Increase in sexual assault cases in Gold Coast

Gold Coast security officials have warned of an increase in sexual assault cases throughout the area. According to local sources, 198 cases of sexual assaults, or attempted sexual assaults, have been reported in Gold Coast in 2018 as of mid-May - compared to 157 cases in the same period in 2017. Gold Coast police have advised individuals, notably women, to stay in groups, especially after dark. A heightened security presence is anticipated in the area in the coming weeks and months.
