Afghanistan: Attack on police station in Logar province May 30

At least nine killed and eight injured following car explosion and gunfire at police station in Logar province (east) May 30

Warning

Event

A car bomb attack was carried out at a police station in Pul-e-Alam (Logar province) around 04:50 (local time) on Wednesday, May 30. The explosion and ensuing shootout between police officers and Taliban militants in Police District 1 left at least six officers dead and eight civilians injured. Three militants were killed by police forces. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Context

On April 25, the Taliban issued a statement announcing the launch of their annual spring offensive, which coincides every year with the arrival of warmer weather that allows militants to move more easily over Afghanistan's mountainous terrain. The terrorist group has since launched multiple attacks in Kabul, Badghis, Farah, and Ghazni provinces, killing dozens of security forces and civilians.

Advice

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas with proper security protocols in place, other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
