Pakistan: TTP militants wound 25 people in South Waziristan June 3

Event

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants launched an attack on Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) members in Wana (South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province) on Sunday, June 3. At least 25 people were wounded in the attack. Paramilitary soldiers reportedly deployed to the area and imposed a curfew overnight from Sunday, June 3, to Monday, June 4 (local time). Additional TTP attacks on PTM members and others are possible in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the coming days.

Context

Various terrorist groups including the Taliban and other radical Islamist groups continue to pose a threat throughout the country despite continued army offensives to push them from their northwestern strongholds near the Afghan border. Pakistan suffered a number of deadly attacks earlier in the year, notably in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (including in Peshawar) and Lahore.
