Kenya: Aviation authority imposes restrictions on 29 airlines
Kenya’s Civil Aviation Authority imposes operating restrictions on 29 airlines due to safety concerns following deadly crash on June 5
Event
On June 6, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) announced that it has imposed operating restrictions on 29 airlines and 15 maintenance companies due to safety concerns. According to KCAA officials, the airlines under the restrictions will only be allowed to carry out domestic flights until they meet required certifications. However, aviation officials did not release the names of the airlines in order to protect their privacy and business. The decision to conduct the audits was made following the crash of a small plane in the Aberdare forest on June 5, which killed ten people. An investigation into the cause of accident is ongoing as of Friday, June 8.
Advice
Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their international flights prior to departure for the airport and to contact their airline for more information.
