Afghanistan: Deadly suicide bombing in Jalalabad June 11
Four killed and several injured in suicide bombing followed by gunfire in Jalalabad on June 11; no group immediately claims responsibility
Event
On Monday, June 11, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive device around 09:50 (local time) at the Education Department in the PD2 area of Jalalabad (Nangarhar province). The explosion was followed by gunfire. Four individuals, along with the suicide bomber and other assailants, were killed in the attack and at least ten other people have been injured. Furthermore, a vehicle with explosive devices was seized outside of the Education Department. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Context
Islamic State-Khorasan Province (IS-KP) is active in Nangarhar province and has recently carried out deadly attacks in the area. Notably, on May 13, suspected IS-KP militants killed at least 15 people and wounded some 42 others in a coordinated attack on the Jalalabad Customs Finance Department building. More recently on June 8, an armed attack in the home of a lawmaker in Jalalabad killed four people and wounded five others.
