El Salvador: Protest march in San Salvador June 19 /update 1

A protest is set to take place in the capital San Salvador on Tuesday, June 19. Demonstrators will march from Cuscatlán Park to the headquarters of the ARENA political party (Alianza Republicana Nacionalista). The march is being held to denounce perceived plans by ARENA to privatize the provision of water services. A similar protest held in front of the National Assembly (Asamblea Legislativa) building in San Salvador on June 14 was forcibly dispersed by security forces using tear gas. Further violence is possible June 19.
