Côte d'Ivoire: Water shortages alleviated in Baouké /update 4

Water shortages alleviated in Baouké as of June 22 due to recent rainfall

Warning

Event

Recent rainfall has alleviated water shortages, ongoing for more than three months, in the central city of Bouaké as of mid-June. Longer-term solutions for this chronic issue, such as importing water from Lake Kossou, are still in the early stages. In the meantime, emergency well drilling continues and tanker trucks remain deployed to distribute water.

Context

The shortages were due to low rainfall coupled with quarry work that has diverted water to the city's hydroelectric dam.

Advice

Individuals in Bouaké are advised to conserve water, stock up on bottled water, keep abreast of the situation via local media outlets, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. water rationing measures).
