A fire is ongoing on the Saddleworth Moor, located 20 km (12 mi) northeast of the city of Manchester, since the evening of Sunday, June 24. Some 800 hectares (2000 acres) of moorland have burned. As of June 27, the fire continues to spread and 50 homes in Carrbrook have been evacuated. Local authorities have requested the military to be prepared to support the ongoing firefighting efforts. Several nearby schools are closed as of June 27.
