Afghanistan: Taliban kills at least two in Logar province July 2

Event

The Taliban launched a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) attack on a US mounted patrol in Pul-e-Alam (Logar province) on the evening of Monday, July 2 (local time), killing at least two civilians and wounding three others. US military officials confirmed on Tuesday, July 3, that the attack resulted in no American casualties. Additional Taliban attacks on US military personnel and installations are possible in Logar province in the near-term.

Context

On April 25, the Taliban issued a statement announcing the launch of their annual spring offensive, which coincides every year with the arrival of warmer weather that allows militants to move more easily over Afghanistan's mountainous terrain. The group has since launched multiple attacks across the country, killing security forces and civilians.
