Nigeria: Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos to close July 27-29 /update 1

On July 11, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos announced that the Third Mainland Bridge, which connects Lagos Island to the mainland, would be closed to all traffic from 00:01 (local time) on Friday, July 27, to 23:59 on Sunday, July 29, to carry out tests ahead of planned repairs; previous plans to possibly close the bridge July 13-15 were postponed. Traffic disruptions are expected in the area for the duration of the closure, particularly on the Eko and Carter bridges (the two other bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland). Once repair work is underway, it is expected to take place over a period of 27 months, during which time partial closures will be in place. Local authorities have advised motorists in the area to use mass transportation when possible to reduce traffic congestion.
