Police disperse protest in Portland on August 4 following clashes between far-right groups and counter-protesters

Two opposing protest groups - the right-wing Patriot Prayer and a group of counter-protesters - clashed in downtown Portland (Oregon) on Saturday, August 4, prompting police to intervene and order participants on both sides to disperse. At least one person was injured in the protest. Although the situation has calmed as of Saturday evening (local time), an increased security presence is anticipated.

Context

The Patriot Prayer event was organized by Joey Gibson, leader of the group and a Senate candidate from Washington state. A similar event was held on June 30, which was also met with a large group of counter-protesters and also turned violent.
