Japan: Typhoon Leepi to make landfall in Kyushu August 14 or 15

Event

Typhoon Leepi is nearing the southern island of Kyushu (largest city: Fukuoka), with landfall expected on the night of August 14 or the morning of August 15. Leepi will bringing winds and heavy rain - up to 20 cm (8in) in southern Kyushu and 12 cm (5in) in the Shikoku region. Authorities have issued wind and wave alerts for northern and southern Kyushu, warning further that there is a significant risk of landslides, flooding, lightning strikes, and tornadoes.

Context

Leepi is the 15th typhoon of the season. In Japan, the typhoon season runs from June 1 to November 30, with most storms occurring between July and October.
