Israeli airstrikes reported against Iranian and pro-Syrian government military positions in Hama and Tartus on September 4
Event
On Tuesday, September 4, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) reportedly struck military positions in the provinces of Hama and Tartus. Syrian state-controlled media reported strikes in the towns of Hama, Banias, and Wadi al-Ayun. According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (SOHR), the airstrikes targeted Iranian and pro-Syrian government positions.
Context
Over the past year and a half, the Israeli army has struck more than 200 targets in Syria, most of which have been arms depots and military facilities.
To date, the Syrian conflict involves many parties, including the Syrian government, the Russian government, the Iranian government, the Turkish government, a US-led coalition, and numerous armed groups on the ground (including the Islamic State) with competing goals.
