6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Mindanao September 8; aftershocks and damages possible
Event
A 6.1-magnitiude earthquake struck the island of Mindanao at approximately 15:16 (local time) on Saturday, September 8. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was located about 9 km (5 mi) west-northwest from Manay at a depth of 10 km (6 mi). As of 15:40, no damages have been reported. Aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days.

Individuals present in the area are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), to move away from windows, and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
