6.4-magnitude earthquake on Mindanao island causes minor damage in Davao City and Mati September 8; no casualties reported

Minor damages were reported on the island of Mindanao on Saturday, September 8, after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck around 15:16 (local time). Buildings in Davao City and Mati suffered damage from the quake. Students were evacuated from Ateneo de Davao University in Davao City as well as from a mall. No casualties have been reported as of Sunday, September 9. Aftershocks are possible in the coming days.

Individuals present in the area are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.

In the event of aftershocks, individuals are advised to protect themselves as much as possible from falling debris if indoors (e.g. under a table), to move away from windows, and to not attempt to leave the building unless there is an immediate danger. If outdoors, move away from tall buildings, utility wires, and streetlights.
