Intercommunal clashes in Nakuru and Narok counties September 5-12; at least five people killed

Clashes broke out in Eastern Mau (Nakuru county) and Narok South (Narok county) September 5-12. According to reports, at least five people were killed in the fighting, which reportedly took place between two clans fighting over land rights in the Mau forest. Additional security forces have been deployed to the area; nevertheless, further clashes are possible in the coming days.
Context
The government plans to evict more than 40,000 settlers living in the Mau forest in a bid to restore the local water tower. However, one of the communities reportedly continues to occupy one of the disputed forest parcels, while the other has been flushed out.
