Supporters in Quito are expected to gather at Plaza San Blasand at 16:30 (local time) before marching to Calderon Park. Heightened security measures and traffic disruptions are anticipated around all protest sites.

FUT leaders are protesting recent government austerity measures, including reducing fuel subsidies. The government announced the new measures on August 21 in an effort to lower the fiscal deficit from 7.3 percent of the GDP to 4.3 percent by the end of 2018.
