UK: South Western Railway strikes Oct. 23 to Nov. 24 /update 1

South Western Railway workers to stage strikes between October 23 and November 24; significant disruptions expected

Warning

Event

South Western Railway workers are set to hold further strikes over a dispute regarding train personnel in the coming weeks. The first will run from October 23 through October 27. Additional 24-hour strikes will be held on November 3, 10, 17, and 24. Significant disruptions (reduced services, delays, overcrowding) are to be anticipated along the South Western network, including on routes to and from London Waterloo station. Increased road traffic congestion is also possible if large numbers of travelers are forced to seek alternative means of transportation.

Context

South Western Railway serves southern England and Wales.

As a reminder, Northern Rail employees are also holding 24-hour strikes on October 13 and 20. Northern Rail serves destinations in northern England and southern Scotland.

Advice

Travelers are advised to confirm rail timetables and allow for extra time to reach their destinations during the strike.
