France: Dengue fever outbreak reported in Saint-Laurent-du-Var

Local health authorities confirmed four new cases of dengue fever in the Saint-Laurent-du-Var district in Alpes-Maritimes department, bringing the total number of dengue cases reported in the area up to five as of mid-October. The first indigenous case of dengue fever was confirmed on October 4. Although the risk of developing an epidemic is limited, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and carrying out actions to control mosquito breeding in the area.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease found mostly in urban and semi-urban areas. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, nausea, and rash. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a potentially deadly complication that is characterized by high fever, enlargement of the liver, and hemorrhaging.
