Afghanistan: Insider attack in Kabul kills US service member Nov. 3
At least one US military service member killed, another wounded in apparent insider attack in Kabul November 3; attacker also dead
Event
At least one US military service member was killed and another wounded in an apparent insider attack at the Kabul Military Training Center located on the eastern outskirts of the Afghan capital on Saturday, November 3. The assailant, a member of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), was also reportedly killed as he attempted to flee the scene. Details are still emerging and the incident is currently under investigation.
Context
Around 100 insider attacks are estimated to have taken place in Afghanistan since June 2017. On October 18, another such attack targeted Afghan and NATO officials during a security meeting at the governor's residence in southwestern Kandahar city (Kandahar province). That incident left two Afghan officials dead, including Kandahar province's police chief.
