Jordan: Heavy rain and flooding leave at least 12 dead November 9 /update 1

Heavy rain and flooding across parts of Jordan left at least 12 people dead and caused road transportation disruptions on Friday, November 9. Over 3500 people were evacuated before flooding overwhelmed Petra. Authorities declared a state of emergency in Aqaba on Friday due to heavy rain. Madaba city also reported severe flooding on Friday and Saturday, November 10. Authorities opened a shelter in Ma'an for dozens affected by flooding and also continued their search for missing persons near the Wala Reservoir on Saturday. Further forecast rainfall in some affected areas may exacerbate flooding and cause further transportation disruptions.

Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather forecasts, avoid areas affected by flooding, prepare for transportation disruptions, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders). Keep in mind that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
