France: Union calls for nationwide demonstrations December 3

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union has called for nationwide demonstrations to take place on Monday, December 3, to protest President Emmanuel Macron's proposed energy policy. Associated traffic disruptions are possible in major urban areas, including Paris.

Context

President Macron announced on November 27 that the government will reduce its dependence on nuclear energy by 2035, increase reliance on mixed-forms of energy, and close all coal-fired power plants by 2022. The CGT claims this proposal would threaten some 10,000 jobs.
