France: Transportation strikes planned nationwide December 13-15

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union announces transportation services strikes on December 13-15; bus, metro, and rail disruptions expected nationwide

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union has announced RATP workers, which includes local bus and metro services in Paris, will launch a strike beginning at 22:00 (local time) on Thursday, December 13, until 07:00 on Saturday, December 15. Workers are protesting current salary rates. Additionally, CGT members with the SNCF national rail network will launch a strike on Friday, December 14, to protest salary and pension proposals. Associated delays and cancelations are expected on transportation services nationwide if the strike goes ahead as planned.

Context

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union has called for a national day of action on December 14 to protest falling purchasing power and perceived inadequate pensions and social protections. Union officials also indicated they submitted a request with the government to launch additional strikes between December 8-31.
