Tunisia: Education sector stages nationwide protests December 12

Teachers to hold nationwide demonstrations in Tunisia on December 12; associated disruptions expected

The General University of Secondary Education union has called for nationwide protests on Wednesday, December 12, to denounce low wages. In the capital Tunis, participants will gather at 12:30 (local time) at Mohamed Ali Square before marching on Avenue Habib Bourguiba. Other marches and sit-ins are expected in other urban areas, including in Sfax, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine, Médenine, and Kef. Associated transportation disruptions expected.

Additional protests are scheduled on December 19, notably in Tunis, where participants will gather outside the Ministry of Education at 11:00.
