Police attributed the accident to a speeding car and poor visibility due to dense fog in the region. The accident took place in the early morning (local time) of Saturday in Ambala district, approximately 45 km (28 mi) south of Chandigarh. Dense fog and associated adverse driving conditions are forecast to persist across northern India in the coming days and weeks, including in Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi.
