Jordan: Transportation disruptions due to heavy snowfall Jan. 16-17

Heavy snowfall have hit the country, including the capital Amman, on Wednesday, January 16, prompting the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to issue a state of maximum alert. According to the Jordan Meteorological Department, cold temperatures, heavy rain, snow, and strong winds are expected through Thursday, January 17, prompting the government to delay the start of work at public insitutions and to close schools and universities on Thursday. Consequent transportation disruptions were reported across the country; power outages and infrastructure damages cannot be ruled out.
