Tunisia: Militants attack security patrol in Jendouba province March 16

Event

On Saturday, March 16, suspected militants attacked a joint military and national guard patrol near Ghardiamou (Jendouba province). According to a government spokesperson, the suspected militants engaged the patrol and subsequently fled to the mountains. Additional information on if the clashes resulted in any casualties was not immediately released. A heightened security presence is anticipated in the abovementioned area over the coming weeks. Further attacks against government forces are possible in the near term.

Certain Western governments advise against travel to the south of the country (i.e. regions on the borders with Algeria and Libya) due to the presence of armed groups.
