A 6.6-magnitude earthquake hits off the coast of La Libertad on May 30; no tsunami warning issued

The US Geological Survey recorded a 6.6-magnitude earthquake approximately 27 km (17 mi) south-southeast off the coast of La Libertad on the morning (local time) of Thursday, May 30. According to initial reports, the quake struck at a depth of 65 km (40 mi). No tsunami warning has been issued as of 04:20 (local time) and there have been no reports of damages. Aftershocks are possible in the coming hours and days. Details are still emerging.
