Warning

Event

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued mudslide warnings for parts of Hiroshima and Yamaguchi prefectures on Friday, June 7, due to ongoing heavy rains. Officials have asked residents in parts of Hiroshima City to evacuate, and Level 4 warnings (on a 5-stage scale) have been issued for the wards of Naka, Higashi, Nishi, Asaminami, Asakita, and Saeki. Similar warnings are also in place for Kumano Town and parts of Kaita and Saka towns. In Yamaguchi prefecture, Level 4 warnings are in effect for Kano and Sugane districts. Over 2000 homes in Nishiki and Mikawa districts of Iwakuni City have also been issued evacuation orders. Heavy rains, flooding, and landslides, along with associated transportation disruptions, are possible in the region throughout Friday.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, obey all instructions issued by the local authorities, anticipate transportation disruptions, including road closures and damaged infrastructure, and remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) is enough to knock over an adult.
