Japan: Tropical depression heads toward south, central Japan June 27-28

Tropical depression in West Pacific forecast to move over Kyushu, Shikoku and Honshu June 27-28; heavy rain, flooding, and landslides possible

A tropical depression in the West Pacific, east of Taiwan, is forecast to move north-northeast and pass across Kyushu, Shikoku, and Honshu islands beginning Thursday, June 27, and into Friday, June 27. Heavy rain is expected in the southern portions of those islands, including the Kansai region (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto) and the Greater Tokyo metropolitan area. Resultant flooding and landslides are possible along with associated power, telecommunication, and transportation disruptions.

Context

Japan frequently experiences tropical storms and typhoons from July to October. 

Osaka is hosting the G20 Summit on Friday, June 29, and Saturday, June 30.
