UK: Severe weather forecast for northern UK July 11

Weather officials warn of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain on July 11; flooding and associated transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland for Thursday, July 11. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast to hit the region between 12:00 and 21:00 (local time) on Thursday, which may cause localized flooding. Associated transportation disruptions are possible, including adverse driving conditions and delays or cancelations of train and bus services in the region. Flight disruptions may also occur at Belfast International Airport (BFS), Glasgow Airport (GLA), and other regional airports. The Met Office also warned of the possibility of power outages.

Advice

Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm flight reservations and road conditions prior to setting out, budget additional travel time, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. It is important to note that that walking or driving through floodwaters can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
